Clarithromycin — impurities and related standards
All 4 Clarithromycin-related compounds in the CATO catalogue, listed with their CAS numbers, molecular formulae and stock status. If the compound you need is not listed, send the structure or the impurity designation and we will check whether it can be synthesised or isolated.
Clarithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibacterial derived from erythromycin A, used for respiratory and skin infections and in combination regimens for Helicobacter pylori eradication. Its manufacture proceeds through oximation and methylation of the erythromycin precursor, and the impurity profile reflects those transformations: the corresponding oxime, O-methylated and N-demethylated derivatives, further macrolide congeners, and degradation products that accumulate during storage. The items listed here are the EP-designated clarithromycin impurities, supplied as individual characterised standards for pharmacopoeial related-substance methods, identification of unknown peaks, and the development of chromatographic separations that must resolve several closely eluting macrolide components.
