Fosfomycin — impurities and related standards
All 5 Fosfomycin-related compounds in the CATO catalogue, listed with their CAS numbers, molecular formulae and stock status. If the compound you need is not listed, send the structure or the impurity designation and we will check whether it can be synthesised or isolated.
Fosfomycin is a broad-spectrum antibacterial with a phosphonic acid group and an epoxide ring, used in human medicine for uncomplicated urinary tract infections and in some formulations for other infections. Its chemistry sets the agenda for related-substance work: the epoxide is susceptible to ring-opening, so hydrolysis products and diol-type degradants are monitored, while the phosphorus-containing starting materials and by-products of the synthetic or fermentation route also require control. Impurity testing may additionally consider nitrosamine risk where the manufacturing process allows it. The fosfomycin standards listed here are non-compendial impurities together with the fosfomycin material itself, supplied as individual lots for identification and for quantitative related-substance and stability-indicating methods.
