A polyether ionophore antibiotic obtained by fermentation, Narasin is closely related to salinomycin and is used in veterinary practice and medicated feed as an anticoccidial agent. Its formula C43H72O11 and molecular weight of 765.03 reflect the large carboxylic ionophore framework that mediates its activity. Because residues and cross-contamination in feed are closely watched topics, laboratories require a well-characterised reference standard for developing and validating LC-MS/MS methods, for identification and confirmation purposes, and for quantitative calibration across feed and tissue matrices.
